A fun and adventurous lil gay book. The story is NOT about pirates like I was lead to believe but that doesn’t factor into my rating. Just letting y’all know what to expect.
It’s a fairy-tale esc story with elements of a little mermaid retelling, although it’s different enough to be vaguely intriguing.
Overall I think this book could’ve been longer and the foundations built upon. I was interested in the world and magic system, as well as the side characters. I think the bad-guy reveal could’ve been done better as it was mildly anticlimactic.
But the ending was cute enough and made my lil queer heart happy, and the writing style was enjoyable!
I do have a soft spot for queer fairytale retellings, and allowing for queer representation in traditionally very heteronormative subgenres, and this book is another that I can recommend for others that like that too :)
Not the best but it brought me joy and I’m glad I read it :))
