Saint by Sierra Simone

3.0

2.5⭐️ rounded up :( it pains me to give a poor review for a Sierra Simone book, but I did not enjoy Saint. Priest and Sinner are two of my favorite books and sadly Saint did not measure up.

This was sloooooooooooow. I enjoyed reading about the monks’ lives and running the brewery at first. She paints a relaxing scene of a simple and wholesome lifestyle for the monks. After a while, I got really bored of reading about the monks brewing, praying, picking lavender, etc.

It was especially challenging for me to get through Saint because the majority of the book is Aiden’s ruminating internal monologue. Aiden struggles with depression and his whole inner dialogue is…. well, depressing lol. It was a little too triggering for me and hard to enjoy even though the writing itself is beautiful. Most of Sierra Simone’s books feature a lot of inner turmoil, but there is not enough actually happening to keep my interest.

The romance itself had the opportunity to shine amongst the darkness, but sadly the relationship is lacking as well. I love the representation of a bisexual main character and a POC love interest, but Aiden and Elijah are seriously lacking chemistry. I feel like they aren’t well suited for each other after all their time apart. I’m glad that they get their HEA though, and that Aiden finds his purpose.
