This is an absolutely stunning and impactful book. There is so much to this book that just makes it such an impactful story. Bree is strong and smart. She is so powerful and strong against everything she hast to go through. I absolutely adore her. The fantasy and system is very well thought out and detailed. The author did a fantastic job of creating the magic system and lineages in place. The plot twist at the end of the book is fantastically written. Legendborns is complex, dynamic, and emotional. I highly recommend for people to read the story.
This book also talks quite a bit about racism and discrimination that Bree has to face throughout the story. Not only does Bree have to deal with the institutionalized racism and bigot with in the legend for an society, but there is also a great deal about her ancestors were slaves. This book does not shy away from discussing these topics. I have seen some people leaving reviews about how this book is not relatable or that they liked all the characters except for Bree. These people are not only are missing the point of Bree and her story but are also completely devaluing the importance of seeing these topics in literature. I’ve seen people say that they like Tor more than they like Bree despite the fact she’s in the book for maybe 10 minutes and the stuff that she says at the end of the book to Bree.
Lastly, I listen to this on audiobook and the narrator it was just so fantastic. She really embodied every single emotion and brought so much expression to the characters.
Overall this book deserves every glowing review I have seen and I think everyone should pick this story up.
