Rough stuff. Sapphire's poetry is amazing but here language is stripped down to its roots and that matter-of-factness just amplifies the horror of Precious's situation. I can't believe this book gets left off of all those "saddest book of all time" lists, even if there is a streak of hope running through the whole thing.
