Night Drop by Marshall Thornton

4.0

In the wake of the 1992 LA riots, unassuming, lonely Noah Valentine stumbles upon the mystery of a man thought dead, but whose charred corpse points to something more sinister. Spurred on by an encounter with the deceased man's cold-hearted family, and with the help of his meddlesome downstairs neighbours and a detective hiding secrets of his own, Noah hunts for answers.

Extra star for the devastating ending that answered so many questions in the perfect way. This is an enjoyable and easy to digest mystery, with a lovely gruff yet gentle potential LI who is just the sort of character I love. Noah seems like an everyman type MC, right up until the very last page or so, where the reasons for his behaviour are revealed, and his characterisation makes so much sense. The pain!

Looking forward to continuing this series.
