The Wedding-Knell by Nathaniel Hawthorne

dark sad slow-paced

2.0

The story here is interesting: two older people are getting married, and it turns out they were lovers in their youth but the woman had spurned the man and had married two other gentlemen in the intervening decades, only now agreeing to marry him in their aged decline, to use language like Hawthorne’s. And it is that language that makes this story less than enjoyable.
