In Crown of Midnight I felt like Chaol understood Celeana better than Dorian but in this book it was the opposite. Dorian understood that Celaena wasn't becoming anything different from what she had always been. Chaol just finally saw everything and he can't just pick what parts of her to love. Just as he can't pick the parts of Dorian he can accept. I hated how he wished that Celaena wasn't who she is and didn't see magic as the problem.
I admit that I didn't like Manon when I first read this series and actually skimmed all of her point of views. This time I think her point of view was my favorite after Celeana and Rowan moments. I had actually more fun with her point of view than reading about Dorian. I liked how determined Manon was about Abraxos.
I can't believe I'm saying this but Chaol's point of view was much more interesting than Dorian's. But that's because I loved finally having Aedion and I had zero interest with Dorian's romance with Sorscha. I wish we had seen more scenes with Dorian and Chaol. They have always been close according to the flashback but it seems like during the present time Dorian is always mad at him and Chaol prefers to keep secrets from him even if it is in his mind to keep the prince safe.
Celaena doesn't know if she can trust her cousin after all these years while he thought his most beloved title was cousin, kin and protector. That didn't mean she blamed or detested him for what he'd become. I already love their relationship and can't wait for them to meet again. He was ready to burn down the world if she asked even when he was only thirteen years old. It was so sad how they felt like they betrayed each other. Aedion by not being there to save her and her by not being able to save their family.
The relationship between Rowan and Celaena wasn't something I'd call healthy but it was definitely the start of actual enemies to lovers. They're the reason I rated this book three instead of two stars but I get why people don't like them after reading this book. Rowan was mentally and sometimes physically abusing her but he also had his reasons for most of the things he did. She also felt like she deserved it. I love how they slowly started trusting each other and becoming protective.
All in all I'm enjoying noticing things I never noticed when I read the series for the first time. I wasn't big fan of most plotlines, like the one with Sorcha and if you've read my reviews before you know I'm more into romance than action. Heir of Fire reminded why I love Rowan and Aelin together and can't wait to read more scenes about them together.
