"Don't believe the truths told to you by the light. The brightness you're used to casts the most vicious of shadows."
I cannot get over how good this book was. Seriously, the depth of the characters, the world-building, the dialogue...really everything about this book has me obsessed with it. I would recommend checking the trigger warnings (on one of the first pages) prior to reading, as it may not be for everyone due to some of the content that's in it. Mariel Pomeroy's writing is so descriptive and entrancing which made this book so hard to put down.
"We're all broken, Aheia. It's what gives us strength. Only the broken can grow."
I loved the various POVs that were included in the chapters. While Arioch and Aheia's POVs were amazing in their own right, it was so interesting to get the POV of the other characters such as Emyrn and Shiron. That was an added bonus that left me wondering about the backstory of Arioch's companions and Aljira itself. I'm still reeling over the ending though. I have yet to emotionally recover, and I probably won't until the 2nd book comes out (which is hopefully soon because the suspense is killing me!).
