The book follows two different stories, one about the lifes of two friends which delves into imprisonment and torture while the second is about the ship Struma and its passengers, telling the happenings through journal entries. Even though the first one was also interesting at times, it dragged and thus took much screentime away from the actual plot, the Struma. I would have liked more information and chapters about the title giving ship and its passengers. It was over way too soon. Though at the end both stories tie up, I felt like the first plotline didn't add that much.
