It's Not About the Burqa by Mariam Khan

informative reflective

5.0

it’s always about reading from the perspectives of people discussing their own lived experiences, the intricacies that we otherwise might not be exposed to without the vulnerability of personal writing and reflection. i appreciate that each contributor to this collection shared a piece of their own journey, amplifying the voices and experiences of Muslim women and pushing back against a narrative that dominates the mainstream media and public discourse that only acknowledges Islam as oppressive towards women. each of the women who wrote an essay for this collection are collectively working to change that narrative and it’s really beautiful
