Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
5.0
Imagine a dystopian future where CW and E! pretty much run the world, and you'll have Beauty Queens. I really enjoyed this book. As always Libba Bray introduces a diverse cast of characters, mostly female, each with a unique voice. The plot is engaging and thought provoking, and makes fun of itself as much as it does the pop culture that serves as source material.
My one quibble is with the audio book narration. Firstly, because of the ridiculous accents (I was actually glad when the boys left), but mostly because of the pronunciation of Tane Ngata. I'm presuming that Tane is supposed to be Maori (given the Australian accent and ornithology), so I'd read his names as Ta-nae N(g)a-ta. Not Tane (rhymes with pain) Na-ga-ta. This was just kind of frustrating and just threw me out of the book when it happened.
That aside, this was a great book.
