Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
5.0
While not as perfect as "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close", this is still one of the best books I've read in a long time. Unflinchingly brutal and sad in spots, but when dealing with subjects like denial of identity and the loneliness of love you can't expect much else. The first person narrator Alex is the main drag of this book as he pieces together the English language through a thesaurus which feels gimmicky after the first few chapters. This is a fine price to pay though for how beautiful and heartbreaking this story is. Loved it a million times over.
