Please note that this is a review from 2016. At that time, I did not keep track of trigger warnings so apologies. Young Lacy did not know what she was doing back then.
As much as I loved this series, this was my least favorite book. Lena drove me crazy! She pushed Ethan away and all Ethan wanted to do was help. That just pissed me off. She has a boy who is so crazy about her and she just leaves him for some idiot that is just using her. Ugh! All because she thought Ethan wouldn't understand. I mean obviously, the guy is so madly in love with her that he physically hurts himself voluntarily every time he kisses you. I have a lot of feelings about this particular book. But I honestly can’t stand those who have a victim complex and take it out on everyone.
Lena still has yet to Claim what side she wants to be on: Light or Dark. She has discovered that she can choose....but it comes at a price. A hefty price. So while I understand that she is under quite an amount of stress and pressure, there is still no need to take it out on the one person who is trying to help you.
But as I mentioned, Lena takes off with Ridley and John, who I did not care for at all. So Ethan, being the loving boyfriend that he is, goes and gets her. He figured out what they were doing and where they were going. Both could be better. He gets Olivia, Link, and even Ridley to help him. There are also a few secrets that Ethan's own family is hiding to help him along the way.
Despite my complaints, I loved this book but spent most of the time mad at Lena for being stupid. I admired Ethan and that he was willing to go and chase down his girl, even though she told him not to. That is some love right there. I think this was more of a filler book. It’s a bridge to get to the next book, where I imagine things will get better and better. Hopefully, we don’t have to deal with Lena being ridiculous anymore.
