House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
4.0
I’ve had this book on my TBR for a long while, I’m so glad I finally picked it up once all the hype for it had died down, because whilst I really enjoyed it, it certainly wasn’t perfect.
House of Salt and Sorrows is a whimsical, well written retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses, which I’ve never read or heard of before, so I’m unsure about how much it is inspired by TDP, but I really enjoyed it. There is an eerie undertone throughout this entire story, making you question everything you think about it time and time again.
I really loved the horror elements, they were written in a way that wasn’t too far fetched and they were totally believeable given the circumstances. A few times I felt goosebumps from what I was reading and I’m so glad that happened since all I’d heard about this book was how spooky it was.
There are some major trigger warnings which I’ll list here:- death, Murder, suicide, childbirth, miscarriage, graphic scenes, animal violence, dead animals, hauntings, mental health.
