The Happiness Trap: Stop Struggling, Start Living by Russ Harris
4.0
after coming close to DNF’ing this in the first chapter, I’m really glad I stuck this one out. To begin with I thought “well of course he we go it’s the same old rubbish about going outside etc etc”. But the happiness trap has a really different approach to dealing with negative thoughts. This book outlines an approach to life which (similar to Buddhism) acknowledges that negative feelings are a part of life, and that we should lead our lives based on our values and what’s dear to our hearts. I’ll definitely be giving some of these techniques a go - dr Russ uses brilliant analogies to outline rather advanced concepts and this is the first time I’ve put down a self help book and thought “hey that might actually work!” Personally I wish this book delved a little deeper into the science behind these strategies (but I’m sure that might bore most people). Overall, I’d definitely recommend this one especially if negative thoughts are a constant struggle for you 🖤
