The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell

4.0

I really enjoyed this book more than I did the first book. I was on edge all the way through. I felt I really connected to the characters more than the previous book, possibly because they’re older with obvious history. This book focuses heavily on the remaining family members and a case that resurfaces after 25 years. It was also part police procedural as we follow DCI Samuel Owusu who was called out to the River Thames where a bag of human bones was discovered and everything we thought we’d known previously, is it the truth or could there be more to the story?

I’m so glad I didn’t rush to read this book after reading The Family Upstairs as I feel if I had, I’d have felt differently about it but as it stands I waited and in turn I got a book I couldn’t stop thinking about. So, I’d definitely recommend reading it, even if you didn’t really gel with the first one, this one makes up for it, I think. A much needed sequel in my opinion.
