My mind feels like drifting while reading this book. I could say it was my best experience reading a book this year. Dystopian world with tyrannical throne likely will always make me seated. Setting up in Middle Eastern culture with a touch of supernatural elements, the writer brings a full-packed book about humanity. Sabaa Tahir also puts some issues which close to human being, to what have happened and is happening in the world. As a reader myself the emotions I feel are vary, so, not only I enjoy this book as an entertainment but also as a reflection.
The characters themselves are diverse and have major development. I feel love and hate with our main characters, and it all makes sense because people are naturally in between white and black. The pace is quite fast and makes this book is a page-turning. Following Laia and Elias point of views, the story begins to unfold history between Martial Empire and Scholars that will make us rethinking about what freedom truly is.
