Finale: Late Conversations with Stephen Sondheim by D.T. Max
Sondheim's snark and snobbery amuses me (especially since, after seeing Documentary Now's Co-Op the Musical episode, I could hear Sondheim's lines in John Mulaney's voice). That said, I didn't care much for D.T. Max's framing of the interviews. He's determined to get some never-before-seen insight into Sondheim the Man, and introduces each interview as though he were making progress towards "cracking" Sondheim but ultimately arrives at the same conclusion that everyone else does: Sondheim is a complicated guy (like all humans) and very private. Sondheim's last words to him: "End of it! I don't want to be watched."
