Like I always said; Freya Barker has the ability to write intensely emotional and realistic romances that her readers can always relate to easily and empathetically.
Lissie is the newest detective in the Durango PD – but has her own reasons for shifting to Durango. Not only is she trying to outrun her own family and their ability to make her feel guilty of not bowing down to her expectations but she is also trying outrun her own demons.
And while she is always open to something fun with her burly sulky and grumpy biker landlord – what she wasn’t expecting was a common ground with the burly biker!
Yuma, our very own surly biker is a man haunted by his past and the decisions that he made; the consequences of those actions has made him the silent man that he is now, struggling with himself and the intense need that he has for acceptance and love broke my heart to be honest!
It doesn’t take long for both Lissie and Yuma to realise that the intense attraction they feel towards each other is because they both share the same edge of darkness within them – but it the soft vulnerability of Lissie that has Yuma in knots and yearning for something more permanent.
While Yuma had my heart racing; it was Lissie who had my respect – for in spite of her history and her reservations, she is the one who took the first step and opened her heart to the burly biker, even if she knew and expected him to make the stupid mistakes, that he definitely doesn’t disappoint on!
While the mystery within the plot was a challenging one; what I absolutely adored was the sense of familial loyalty and love that was oozing off the plot – not just withing the MC family but between Yuma and his father as well!
With the sneak peak we have gotten of a couple; I am really hoping to read the next book soon *wink*
