5.0
**BOOK REVIEW**
Sinbad and the Trumpet of Israfil by Kevin Missal
Genre- Retelling, Fantasy, Adventure & Action, Young-adult, Romance, Supernatural, etc.
Synopsis- Retelling of 'Sinbad- the Sailor', this first book in the Sinbad series is an adventure tale that captures Sinbad's journey of becoming a Seid and then a sailor. Juggling between past and present, we follow a 12 year old Sinbad, an apprentice learning to become a Seid and how his decisions then has lead to some dire consequences for the 16 years old Sinbad in the now. In following Sinbad we get to see how a man will save the world from getting destroyed from the one girl he has ever loved!
My Take- This is my first book by Kevin Missal and he has already listed himself in my favorite authors list. A master piece. I have not read the original Sinbad tales and hence I am not comparing it with it.
The characters are multidimensional. Events in the novel show Sinbad's intellectual and leadership qualities. Sinbad's relationship with Safeena, his admiration for his master and the drive to become like him which makes Sindbad a dynamic character.
The book is very skillfully crafted. It is divided into short and crisp chapters, alternating between past and present. Furthermore, the last chapters are of 1 or 2 pages which add on building up the excitement and tension within the readers.
P.S. - Don’t start the book at night or the adrenaline rush will not let you sleep.
Rating- 5/5 stars
Recommendation- Highly recommend it to everyone! Need for some real adventure and adrenaline rush, grab this book and READ 'SINBAD' !
