“Curse this world for what it does to the mothers, for what it does to the daughters. Curse it for making us strong through loss and pain, our hearts torn from our chests again and again. Curse it for forcing us to endure.”
“Hope is stronger than fear. It is stronger than hate.”
“The stories we tell have power, of course. But the stories that go untold have just as much power.”
This book was a wild ride. The beginning was a little slower than I expected but the second half more than made up for it. The political intrigue really ramped up in this one which I really liked. We also learned a lot more about the history of the world, as well as the magic system. The ending was excellent, it left me feeling completely hopeless so now I need to read A Sky Beyond the Storm to find out how everything ends. However, I've heard that Tahir absolutely rips out your heart in the final installment so I'm not sure if I'm ready!
Helene was probably my favorite character. She was a complicated character to begin with but I really liked learning more about her. She was tested so thoroughly in this novel and my heart just broke for her constantly. I mean my heart broke for everyone by the end. I really can't wait to see what Tahir has in store in Book 4.
