A Dangerous Thing by Josh Lanyon

4.0

Frustrated with writer's block and his fledgling relationship, Adrien goes on vacation, only to discover the bodies piling up. The locals seem to be hiding secrets and the cops won't help. Even if Jake is struggling with what he wants, he is adamant about keeping Adrien safe, so the two of them team up to solve the case.

This was very much a relationship development book, so all the scenes with Adrien and Jake were just perfect. As is often the case, that meant I found the A-plot side of the story less engaging, which is the reason I enjoyed this book slightly less than the first in the series. It was good to see Adrien starting to reflect on the lingering trauma of his encounter at the end of the first book. Jake's unprocessed self-hatred regarding his sexuality is difficult to read but the pay off in their relationship development made it worthwhile.
