I hadn't expected to love the book as much as I did (it's 900 pages of almost no plot), but the themes that were explored here (alienation stemming from living far away from your culture, said culture being percieved as inferior, alientation both at home and abroad, not meeting your parents expectations, living up to your own expectations and dreams and what you are willing to sacrifice) kept me reading well past my bedtime.
