Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

5.0

Wow. What a book.

Okay so let me start by saying, I’ve never been a huge Disney/fairytale fan but I’ve always liked The Little Mermaid so when I saw this book was a retelling of the story to the Sea Witch/Ursula I knew I had to have a copy - Ursula is one of my favourite fairytale villains, along with Maleficent (PS. We need a retelling of Maleficent).

I was lucky enough to be sent a copy to review from the publisher and I cannot thank them enough.

This book is a beautifully written, dark retelling and I devoured it. At first I was a bit slow to read it but honestly after the 50 page mark I couldn’t put it down!

The characters were so loveable, I think I loved every single one of them, Evie was definitely my favourite closely followed by Nik.

The world building was descriptive enough without being over the top which I really enjoyed. And HOLY CROW. The ‘Viking’ vibes I got from this book made me love it even more, even though it was a complete surprise to be included it worked really well with the story and I’m so glad it happened!

And the plot was nicely done with the twists at the end...I had a suspicion about who Annemette really was so that wasn’t a surprise but the rest of the ending was really well thought out and probably my favourite part.

Overall, this book was really amazingly written, easy to read and unputdownable. Very glad I read it and I really enjoyed it. Can’t wait to reread it in the future.
