The Daughters' War by Christopher Buehlman

5.0

Ever since reading The Blacktongue Thief back in 2021 it has been up there as one of my favorite fantasy books of all time, I just absolutely loved it, everything about it and think about it often! So of course, when The Daughter’s War was announced it immediately became one of my most anticipated reads of 2024.

The minute it arrived through the door & the audio became available I dropped all reading plans and got started .. the plan was to do a mix of the audio and the book but once I started the audio during my looooong school run drive that was it, I was swept up into Galva’s story, so fully immersed that I listened in one sitting throughout the whole day.
The writing + The narration = 👩‍🍳😘👌🏼

Anyways….
Whilst this one had very different vibes than the first book, it’s much slower and kinda reads like a memoir, the writing remains just as brilliant and beautiful. I always get really nervous picking up the next in a series when I loved the previous but it really exceeded all my expectations. Everything was perfection.

There were so many feelings in this book and the character depth was perfection … getting the deeper understanding of characters was everything.  I just absolutely love Galva.
… also there’s Corvids!! If you don’t fall in love with them who even are you?!

I know this one is a prequel so some may say could be read it before the first, however, I would personally say read them in order of publication so this book hits how it’s intended. I truly don’t think the impact would be the same if you don’t.
