The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

3.0

A fine ending to this series. The author finally seemed to get the balance right in all aspects of the book. For a story with nine main characters, a good balance of screen time is given to everyone. And it's done without falling back into the habit of previous books in the series, where the focus character switches occur because the previous character was beaten up to a point of needing to spend days in recovery. Well, maybe a few times things close to that occur. But it's not constant action sequences. Some missions the characters go on don't even come down to combat at all (though the one I'm thinking of right now was mostly handled off screen, with one of the characters explaining how a meeting went).

The ending is probably where I have most of my issues. You know how some people complain about films that have multiple endings? Like there are several points where the movie could have ended well, but they just kept tacking on another final scene. It feels like this book does that with final battles. There are something like four major fights at the end of this thing. And the important one, the one this whole series of novels was based around, feels like the weakest of the lot when compared to its close neighbors.
