The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling
3.0
It's great having variety in your reading, and this was definitely not like anything I've read in a while! It's the story of two women--there's really only two characters in the book. One hires people to explore a cave for reasons that she hasn't honestly revealed. The other is the person she's hired who lied about her experience to get the job in order to make it off the mining planet where she was born. Both women really just want to find their mothers.
But mostly it's a survival story, where Gyre making her way through a dangerous cave system, coming upon the remains of the many other cavers before her, encased in a suit to keep her alive and Em guides her from the surface and, when necessary, takes over the suit.
So it's as much a psychological drama as an adventure. The two characters didn't grab me enough to really love reading about their relationship in such detail, but it was definitely worth the read.
