Pilcher is an excellent technician and there are genuinely lovely little moments, but she also loves a flighty woman of mystery that everyone is inexplicably captivated by. However said flighty woman really came through in the end in a startlingly moving and emotional sequence. Face it, you’re here for the cozy autumn in Scotland vibes and it delivers. I suppose it’s harder now to be truly invested or sympathetic to the plights of the landed gentry, but you can’t argue with Pilcher’s skill as a wordsmith.
