The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

4.0

This has been on my TBR list since I first discovered book-tube, I finally decided to pick it up when I seen the whole series on Scribd.

Now I went in to this book with low expectations and high anticipation. I get why everyone loves/hyped this book. The book drew me in from the first few chapters. Mara Dyer the sole survivor of an accident that killed her two friends and boyfriend wakes up in hospital with no memories of what happened. This then lead to her and her family moving, for a fresh start.

Enter Croyden the new private school she’s now a student in, along with her brother Daniel. I really enjoyed the interaction with Mara and her family. Her brothers Daniel and Joseph are great siblings and Mara’s parent were quite present in this book which I enjoyed. I think it added to the story with them around her while she slowly looses her mind.

Enter Noah shaw the one that shall not leave Mara alone. I enjoyed Noah as a Love interest he really cared for Mara and when Mara finally lets her guard down around him they really work.

There’s a lot that happens in this book, I felt like every plot and subplot came through. I do however wish we got more flashbacks to her and her friends before they died I think It would make more of a heart racing run up to her remembering that night if we got a bit more detail of what the friend group was like before.

All the episodes Mara had while hallucinating were done well I really enjoyed the unpredictable narrator. I do wish her power is more explored in the second book because I want to know how it works.

I would like to note that I didn’t guess what the ending would be so I am intrigued about what the next book holds.
