I thought it was time to reread the first series I ever read from this author. If I Were You is the first book from Lisa Renee Jones' Inside Out series.
This story is about Sara, whose friend Ella gives her Rebecca's journals after getting engaged. Sara is worried about the girl in the journals and decides to find out what happened to her. She goes to the art gallery Rebecca worked at and much to her surprise she gets a summer job there. She loves and knows art very well, so summer break from teaching gives her a time with something she loves and a chance to find what happened to Rebecca.
She meets a famous painter, Chris there and much to her surprise he's interest in her even if he tries to get her walk away from him. He's one of the youngest and most successful painters in the entire world. Sara knows they can't be anything more than they already were. They're both broken and had too much in common but in a bad way.
Chris is different than any man she knows but she can't let herself fall in love with him. Their relationship could only be about escaping reality. Chris is like a drug to her and she was different from other women to him. He couldn't help but open up to her and treat her differently. He also could tell that even though simple life was enough for her, she also missed things from her old life and he wanted to get her pretty things. Chris might like power but he wanted to treat her and keep her far away from her boss.
All in all it has been enough time since the last time I read this series that it was interesting to relearn both of these characters pasts. I like that even if this book has mystery, it's also more focused on the romance and it's only book one and I'm hooked. They made each other feel alive. I loved their chemistry and how sweet he was to her, like getting her roses.
