Contagion by Erin Bowman
3.0
Probably a 2.5, rounding up because I think part of my problem was the narrator of the audiobook.
Felt like all atmosphere and no payoff. The atmosphere is great, a nice little Alien -style setup but by way of George Romero. It takes a long time for the horror to actually start, which is honestly the best part of the book. Never really found myself caring about any of the characters, and the setting itself didn't really click either. However, the horror itself is great, there's some great action scenes, and its an interesting little pathogen too. Maybe a bit too much like Dreamcatcher in both good and bad ways.
I'll probably read the sequel, it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and I'm curious enough to see how it resolves. I'll also be curious if reading that one, as opposed to listening, makes it stronger.
