The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes

2.0

2.5/5 stars. eBook. Up until the last 75 pages or so, I did not understand why people rated this book so poorly. When I reached the end, it all made sense. The writing is technically sound and the story had a lot of potential. I found Maya and Dan endearing for the brief times they were mentioned. The friendship of Aubrey and Maya was also relatable and genuinely written. The twist was simultaneously boring and reaching. It seemed very unlikely that any real detective would believe something like that. This book started out so strong, but the ending was disappointing. I would not recommend, but if Reyes writes something else, I will give her another chance.
