Lust and Other Drugs by TJ Nichols

3.5

Use of the Large Hadron Collider causes a world of mythical beings and creatures to collapse into ours.  Xenophobia and all the usual, ensues.  Our MCs are attempting to balance things out more fairly, working in the San Fran Police Dept, and as a liaison.

Interesting character setup, both have intriguing backstories / motivations.  Lovely world-building, there's a lot going on, most of it pretty dystopian.  And the plot is fair.

It just ... never quite lands for me.  A major confrontation is done off-page.  There's a lot of pining and UST that I didn't somehow feel.  They talk a lot, but don't say very much.  I'll keep on reading, because the world is strong, and perhaps once they Just Kiss things will improve, but ... needed a little more depth for me to really love it.

Spice Note -
1 instance, only involving one MC, early on.  Otherwise, nothing in this book.
