Six teenagers invited to dinner with a chance to win a $20,000 and are then locked in the room, with the only way out is to follow the instructions left behind. Soon enough, the six teenagers start turning on each other by either choosing to kill amongst them; all the while secrets and betrayals are dogging their each decision.
It’s easy to get sucked into a book with a plotline – especially when it is told in two timelines, the past and the present – the past is how we understand how these six teenagers reached the point in the present; for it is easy to see that the relationship amongst the six characters have changed drastically from the start of the school year to the end of this year.
It’s easy to make your own snap judgments about the characters from the start; you know who you will be rooting for, the ones that you will like, and ones that will actually get on your nerves. So yes, it was easy to get hooked to the plotline.
However, a sense of urgency that should underline this kind of plotline somehow wasn’t there. And the climax that should have had the surprise and shock didn’t actually get to me either. Yes, this was an entertaining read; but it was one that I was okay with not binge reading it within one single sitting!
