Camp by Kayla Miller
4.0
I like the book, I think Willow is a narcissistic friend and that needs to be acknowledged but it was explained away in the book.... which is why I couldn’t quite rate it 5 stars.
There is a difference between feeling left out because you are isolating yourself and feeling left out because you are being made to be left out on purpose. That wasn’t acknowledged and actions in the book were excused because of various reasons. Idk, if I was Olive’s mom I would be keeping an eye on that friendship, seems a little toxic. I’ve been there, in Olive’s position, and I think that’s why I was disappointed that there wasn’t really an example of how kids could handle that. There wasn’t a resolve to the core issues in the friendship, just surface level solutions for surface level problems. Aside from all of that, the book is great and really enjoyable. I will love anything with the central theme of being at camp. Highly recommend as a fun summer read for kids 8+.
