funnily enough, i hated this book when i started. every 10 pages until about page 50 i kept asking myself, "am i really gonna finish this?"

and holy CRAP am i glad i didn't give up. the slow start is meaningless in comparison to the rest of the book, which is shockingly powerful and completely, wholly engaged in poetic misandry. o'neill's preference for very short, curt sentences creates a fascinating dichotomy, as even with their bluntness she crafts incredible, moving sentences. sex's pivotal role in many breakthroughs for the characters was physically intense to read, and the overall effect was a gripping read. incredible mwah
