The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

2.0

So first and foremost, I want to recognize the extremely problematic nature of this book. Please see the following review for more information: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4032060130?book_show_action=true&from_review_page=1

Linus Baker works with magical youth and ensures that they are well taken care of. When he is suddenly put on a month-long visit to an orphanage on an island, he is not prepared for the children he will meet... or for that matter, the adults.

I knew about the problematic nature of this book but already had it checked out so I decided to go ahead and see what the hype of the book is about. And to say the least, it's disappointing. I didn't find this book to be as great as everyone says it is. I was so bored with most of the book that it took me forever to read it. There were definitely funny, quirky moments and its share of things I loved, but I spent most of the book just wanting it to be over.

Add in the outside information about what inspired the book and I'm horrified. Definitely takes away the wholesomeness that everyone loves about it.
