i really loved this novel

the writing drew me in with impeccable, descriptive storytelling and rich characterizations. Caucasia centers on the main character, Birdie, as she tries to navigate and carve out her space in the world as a child of a Black father and white mother, with an older sister that is recognizably Black, while Birdie herself is seen as white, and all the challenges that present themselves to her. i felt so emotionally connected to Birdie

and i deeply appreciated the honest reflections on family, the imperfections that were present within every one of Birdie’s family members, the deep impact this had on her sense of self. such an interesting novel
