Illuminate the Night by Jay Leigh
5.0
I was so happy to receive an early copy of the second book in the Rainbow Brigade series, and get back to one of my favourite found families.
This book deals with the aftermath of the events that take place in Whisper into the Night. The White House is covering up the major breach in the Secret Service and one of their agents' disturbing actions. Theo is still hurting after what he went through in the first book, Connor is spiralling and stewing in his own guilt (for not being able to protect Theo), Elias is trying to break through to Addy. Everyone is recovering, or at least trying to. Until they are once again thrust into the crazy, conspiracy driven, DC political world.
This is a six book series, so the plot is slowly building up momentum and tension, puzzle pieces are slowly starting to slot into place. There's conspiracy and corruption, secret meetings and bad decisions, trying and failing to mend relationships (I'm looking at you, Addy!!). Every book brings a new bad guy into focus, but are they somehow connected to form a bigger threat?! Only time will tell.
This book focuses on Elias and Caleb's relationship, and while I'm not their biggest fan (I'm not really into office romance, I often think it's a weird power exchange that should be kept strictly professional), I loved them as characters and what they had to bring to the story. They make for an interesting couple, that's for sure.
I'm not a huge fan of dirty talk in romance books, but this has plenty! Caleb definitely doesn't like to censor himself, no matter the place or time.
