The first thing that comes to mind when I think about this book is the relationship between the three sisters. As someone with three sisters, I can say not every author can capture a sibling relationship well. While the sisters didn't have the most relatable relationship, it fit their circumstances and experiences well. I really enjoyed the way that each of them had their own story and each character was well rounded in that story. The sisters were bound together but like any person, they were each the main character of their own story. I didn't find myself waiting for a specific point of view, which tends to happen for me with books that have more than one POV. I was invested in all of their stories, not just the way they impacted the main plot.
I really liked the world-building in this book. The magical aspects were introduced early on and felt realistic, even as we learned more about them. It was really fun to hear stories and rhymes that I knew growing up as magical spells. That was a really cool concept and was executed well in my opinion.
The only issue I had was some small pacing problems where I felt it drag on in parts, but I'm picky about pacing so I wouldn't fault the book. By the end, I was at the edge of my seat in anticipation. If I weren't trying to read more new books, this would be a reread for sure.
