A Journey's Beginning by Angola Hone

4.0

I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Bullet review:
+Rich world-building
+A colorful cast of many different characters, some of them quite likable
+Ashiy's growing friendship with some of the characters he gets to interact with
+Many secrets and revelations handled in a satisfying way
+A thrilling climax
+Thankfully, subversion of the "all humans are evil" trope which I was afraid the book was going to fall into for a moment
-While Ashiy is by no means a bad protagonist, he is a bit bland for a fantasy main character and doesn't develop all that much throughout the story. But since this is a first book I'm sure he'll become more interesting in future books.
