The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
3.0
3.5/5
tw: self harm, abuse, suicide
“You may think salt is sufficient protection, but you children are forgetful. Better to go without. As for dancing, once begun, you mortals will dance yourselves to death if we don’t prevent it.”
I look at my feet and say nothing.
We children are not forgetful.”
Enemies to Lovers, Tragic Backstory, Anti-Hero
While I enjoyed the slow-building plot, the characters were often too predictable and lacking development, and a lot of the court-lore left me confused. After Dain’s storyline concluded, it all (romance included) felt unnecessary—like it could have ended.
