This is a gorgeously written dual story that comes together so perfectly. The twists and turns are written so perfectly that when one is revealed, it immediately triggers me into remembering the little details that had been building it up.
It is evident that this book is deeply personal to the author, and that makes it even more important to read. It deals with so many pressing themes like immigration, gentrification, Transgender rights and identity, misogyny, and racism, weaving them together to show how all of these different types of oppression are linked by White Supremacy.
The use of imagery and aspects of magical realism throughout gave a fantastical aspect to what is otherwise a book deeply grounded in the character's reality. The birds, especially, did this and did it well.
This is a book I will definitely be recommending to others often!
