As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson
5.0
I loved every second of this series, so much so that I really don’t know what to say about the final book. As Good As Dead was probably my least favourite of the series but it’s still a five-star read. I think the reason why I didn’t like it as much was because the format of this instalment wasn’t like the previous two. The interview transcripts and investigation diaries were some of my favourite parts.
Saying this though, this book is still incredible. What a debut series. You really could never guess where the story was going to go, I especially did not expect the huge twist of this book. It was so intense yet incredibly interesting to read. I really feel like I learnt something from this series and I never expected to say that about a YA mystery thriller. Holly Jackson has quite firmly made her way into my top 5 authors.
The subtle changes in Pip over the previous two books really come to light in As Good As Dead and honestly, I’m here for it. There’s a specific line from the latter half of the book, that if you’ve read this you’ll know which one I’m talking about, that took me completely by surprise, but also hell yeah Pip. I love when characters explore their darker side and Pip definitely did that in this installment.
I can’t talk about this book and not mention Ravi. The absolute light of my life. Will he be taking a top spot in my favourite book boys list? Potentially. He’d do literally anything for Pip and he really proves that in As Good As Dead. I don’t think you’d ever meet anyone as loyal as Ravi. He’s the best.
The absolute sadness I felt when I got to the end of this book was immense. I’m so sad it’s over and I need more Pip and Ravi in my life. The last page legit almost made me cry and I never cry at books.
I have nothing but love for this entire series and I will continue to sing its praise for the rest of time. I’m now going to (impatiently) wait for the adaptation to come out just so I can have more of it in my life.
