I throughly enjoyed this story. The narrator has this matter of fact way of speaking that makes the story feel much more real and warm. The story itself is a wonderful tale of identity, the mirror of good and wicked, and the struggles of immigration. Little Ash and Uriel are amazingly written characters; both struggling in the identities they are expected to be and struggling with who they are becoming. Both are expected to be clear personifications of wickedness or goodness but it isn’t that simple. Goodness can be achieved through “wickedness” and wickedness is not necessarily evil or bad. The development of the characters is flawlessly done with the characters truly becoming something special and unique after a slow and detailed transformation.
