Children of Fallen Gods by Carissa Broadbent
4.0
This book introduced us to Aefe and Caduan and with them to some of the biggest plot twists of the whole story, im not gonna lie and say i saw them coming cause i didn’t, they were good and effective and some left me gasping in shock. I was reticent to the new characters at the beginning but they did win me over and even when their story was fully revealed i still cared and felt for them even if conflicted.
My main issue with this one was that the magic system and its boundaries and possibilities became overwhelming and confusing at times (specifically the deeper magic scenarios and use); still, it was hard to dwell too much on them when my heart was at my throat in fear for the characters lives, AGAIN the character writing is so good!!! they are so solid and complex that it makes up for the weaker parts of the plot at least for me it does. This one fleshed out the villains a bit more and i really liked that
Specially in this book 2 i was so amazed at how a fantasy romance can be so deep and complex and manage to beautifully talk about grief and humanity and the inner fight for goodness against a dark past, how it makes the characters hope and have real non toxic love rooted in companionship and understanding, that you don’t see a lot of, the enemies to lovers that so often is the most popular trope people write almost always starts with cruelty and then goes to justify cruelty with sacrifice and love but books like this show how a respectful and healthy love story can be written masterfully in the midsts of a cruel or harsh context, it is actually a masterclass in that.
I simply love this book so much cause i love Max and Tisaanah so much and i love their love, period.
