Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

Bow down bitches, the queen has arrived

Celaena Sardothien has lost everything but life for Aelin Galathynius has only just begun,
“Actually, I believe the title that our esteemed friends in the empire like to use is ‘fire-breathing bitch-queen.’”

~~A round of applause ~~ for Maas’ ability to describe such strong developing characters, like seriously can you guys remember when we thought this book was just about a lowly assassin ?!?

So how's our squad doing?

Dorian and Chaol redefine bromance, Aedion and Rowan got sibling rivalry vibe, Aelin and Manon are frenemies and our queen finds a beastie bestie in Lysandra

description

We struggle with Aelin— usually a loner, she now trying to build ties and bonds w/ people that are truthful and care about her *fuck Nehemia* and I am so goddamn happy for her !
“If anyone has a problem with it, you can take it up with my court.” She motioned behind her. Rowan, Aedion, and Lysandra—bloodied, battered, filthy—grinned like hellions.”

Aelin’s character… okay guys here’s where I get kinda divided

On one hand, I really loved the arrogant calculating badass nature of Celaena that I felt got lost in the wHiRlWiNd of emotions of Aelin. We didn't see her scheming and planning… We found out AFTER the fact and only saw flirt with Rowan. ignore Dorian. fuck with the rebels. repeat.

description
That being said, I still got lotta love for her that I hope its just a ?? growing phase ?? since we got glimpses of her usual tricky darkness and the brilliant end result of her plans:
“A figure moved past the ladder, heading to where she’d left the cape, tracking her as he’d done all night.
As she’d let him do all night.
And then Lorcan walked right into that den of Valg commanders”

Aelin now shows a vulnerability and hope she never dared let herself before. So, I sad she no longer a dark baddie (Manon replacing that role ??) but happy she becoming a real person I guess
“Then she smiled with every last shred of courage, of desperation, of hope for the glimmer of that glorious future. “Let’s go rattle the stars.”

Now lets have some boytalk

WHAT THE FUCK CHAOL
He was such a little bitch to Aelin justttt whining and complaining about everything that happened was her fault. His entire demeanor was that of a spoiled child throwing a tantrum

He wanted her to be the city’s hero but she chose to be a queen… and he has the audacity to BLAME her BUT then !!! Aelin don’t even try to help him as his friend of 2 years. *face palm* She just mad that he’s mad so everyones just mad ?!? like oh sure that’s really gonna help Dorian and the universe rn (ಠ_ಠ)

description
I adored his original character and I shipped them *who didn’t?* but I don’t think it was necessary to hurt his character just to make Rowan look better… why make him a little bitch and have these great friends hate each other?? WHERES THE LOVE, PEOPLE?? WHERES THE SUPPORT??

Okoko now our newest addition to the boyband, Aeidon !!

Absolutely relished in his devious addition to the group, he shared Celeana's best qualities as brash, capable, and vivacious with his solider background which was just devilishly good fun to read
“Behind them, across the hall, the dancers shattered their roses on the floor, and Aedion grinned at his queen as the entire world went to hell.”

I really REALLY love and want more Fae Fam Bonding to develop these two. the coin metaphor. Like okay, they two sides of same coin NOW LETS SEE IT IN ACTION

Overall, I really enjoyed that this book worked hard to develop the characters *even if now lil sappy*, improve their group dynamic *even if destroyed original trio*, all while keeping intriguing plot with classic Maas twists and life changing details revealed !! Thats not fucking easy, usually a good book has 2 outta 3 of those things. The book really did have some beautiful and captivating writing, I pity those that gave up on this series after the first two books bc it was ‘2 slow;’ bruhhhh its called an EPIC JOURNEY look it up
“You and I have always relished damning the odds.”
