4.25
General rating: 4.1
Considering the followings out of 5:
Plot = 2, Characters = 4.5, Story = 3, Writing = 2, Enjoyment = 5
This is a character driven story.
While the writing isn't going to revolution the world of webnovels, TBATE #01 (or The Beginning After The End) has it's own charm, with what I found to be very lovable characters, even for the ones I've seen the less and seemingly carrying good intention toward our main character, Arthur.
I definitely get Eastern vibes from the (kind of) cultivation settings, reminding me of quite a few webnovel (and manhuas) I've seen around with a pretty overpowered main character, not encountering that many problems but still finding himself in quite a few perilous situations.
Still, it was such a fun and quick read that I didn't find myself minding the lack of defined plot, as our character seemed to be mostly discovering his world and we thus had the time to discover it with him.
Still, probably, my least favorite out of all the novels, but it is still a read I really enjoyed and would recommend.
Note: I'd like to mention I came into this novel having already read the webnovel a while ago. As such, I knew what I was getting into and that you need to keep reading the following books to get to the heart of the plot. If you're reading this review because you're considering reading this but aren't sure about getting into a full series, I would recommend finding something else and coming back to TBATE once you feel like you can commit to reading it at least three books in (I promise it's worth it though, these are short novels compared to the behemoths Fantasy authors usually enjoy selling).
If you're not feeling up for it, know that it was adapted to a webtoon and is available on Tapas!
