A quirky story, with an interesting premise. Our main character is a forger, very skilled at what she does. When we first meet her she is in prison and due to be executed for trying to steal a painting. From the outset we know she’s special, and it comes as little surprise when she is tasked with completing a very challenging job.
Kept quiet, the emperor was attacked in an attempt to overthrow him. Our main character is asked to help create a forgery of the Emperor’s soul so that he can continue to lead his people. In a short space of time she has to complete a seemingly impossible task.
I liked the description of her working, and the ending suggested she was even more skilled than they predicted.
