📝 I found the idea of this book really interesting, like there's a lot of family dynamics at play and there's the whole wanderlust thing, but in the end it just feels like they didn't quite pull it off?
There was a lot of drama/trauma around FMC Addie and her grieving widower dad and their loss of her mom when she was a teen. It took up a lot of real estate on the page and in her brain, plus a phone call with him pushes her towards the 3rd act breakup. And yet there's very little resolution, other than a quick mention in the epilogue.
(Also the epilogue was super weird because they were wrapping up stuff that should've been solved a lot sooner than a full year later.)
MMC Logan is mostly great, although he's got a heck of a chip in his shoulder, also family related. His stuff gets more clearly resolved though. And he's open to love in a way Addie won't let herself be.
🌶️ 3.5/5 There were a few explicit scenes but they were shortish/light on detail.
🎧 the narrators were good and of course the male narrator had a fun Scottish accent (the American female narrator did a decent Scottish brogue too)
✊🏳️🌈 Her male boss, who we hear on the phone a couple times, is married to a man. I think that's the only hint of diversity we get.
